Abstract

The proem of Choerilus' Persika

The aim of the paper is to reconsider the order of the fragments suggested by Lloyd-Jones and Parsons for the proem of Choerilus'Persika. A careful reading of Choerilus' poetological reflections at the opening of his poem, suggests that the makarismos can precede the invocation. If so, Aristotle may have quoted lines from the proem following the right order and the sequence in which the fragments appear in the Rhetoric can be considered reliable.
