Abstract

Odysseus’ style: the anaphora in the Apologoi.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the anaphora in the Apologoi section
of the Odyssey (book IX-XII). From the examined examples (IX 29-36,
X 340-342, XI 206-209, XII 189-191), it is possible to conclude that in
the poem this rhetorical device was intentionally used as a distinctive
feature of Odysseus’ speeches. In the Odyssey this figure of speech is
frequently used by a character who has the important role of storyteller,
so it is not difficult to recognize in Homer a precise awareness of these
effects of the anaphora.
