A ‘garland’ of epitaphs from the American Midwest 

My chapter focuses on the relationship between the Spoon River Anthologyby Edgar Lee Masters and its ancient Greek models, namely the epitaphs from Book 7 of the Greek Anthology. My aim is to show,by close reading analysis and in a few cases, the clear dependance of Mastersʼs poems on precise epigrams from Book 7.
