PLANUDE E PLATONE: IL CASO DELLA ΣΥΝΑΓΩΓΗ

LORENZO FERRONI FERRONI

Abstract

This paper aims to reconsider some problems arising from the reading and studying of the Platonic section of Maximos Planudes' Collectanea. Moving from this text's first complete transcription (still to be published), it is actually possible to investigate Planudes'modus operandi on Plato's dialogues: here we can discover, for instance, that the famous Parisinus gr. 1808 was not our only scholar's source for Tetr. I-VII, and that at least one manuscript for each traditional branch was available in the scriptorium. Some Collectanea's conjectures can also be found in other Platonic apographa. Planudes' text shows itself to be the product of an aware restyling, aiming to fulfil didactic demands, of Plato's dialogues and should therefore be regarded as an important secondary witness for Tetr. I-VII which contemporary editors should not leave out of account.
