TRA COLLEZIONISMO PUBBLICO E PRIVATO: LA FORMAZIONE DELLA RACCOLTA EPIGRAFICA E ARCHEOLOGICA DEL MUSEO CIVICO AQUILANO
Abstract
This paper is focused on the origin, expansion and organization of the epigraphic and archaeological collections of the Museo Civico of L'Aquila. The museum was inaugurated in 1908 and the inscriptions - which had been presented by Francesco Maria Caracciolo to the city on the half of 18th century - constituted the first nucleus of the collections. Successively, inscriptions, relieves and archaeological finds discovered in the neighbouring territory of L'Aquila during the second half of the 19th century and preserved in the Palazzo della Prefettura, enriched the Museum's collection.
